I'm sitting in my cuddle cup pondering life's mysteries. There sure are a lot of them. Love, loss, blessings, suffering...the list goes on and on. The two-legged one says that now that my need for food and shelter is being met, I've got more energy to devote to deep thinking. She also says that I shouldn't spend too much time thinking because even philosopher cats need to maintain a balance between thought and action. I responded by tagging her on the nose and running off to hide. You're it TLO!!

A Portrait In Purple

Hello all my blogging friends. The two-legged one got creative with a photo of me that my auntie took when she visited at Thanksgiving. The TLO used her picture editing software to apply two "illusions" - Chunky Chalk and Plastic Wrap -plus some colorizing to create this special portrait of me. I can't understand why she went to all that fuss. I'm beautiful enough without the use of any "illusions"! Maybe the TLO got carried away after I actually let her kiss me on my head. Little did she know that I felt a bug crawling around up there and I wanted her to take it off. I don't know where the bug went - all I know is that it was gone after she smooched me.

By the way, the TLO thinks that the area of black fur on my side is in the shape of a particular animal. Any guesses?

'Tis the Season

Last night, it snowed pretty much for the first time this winter here in Northern Virginia. I'm all comfy on my fleecy pad, contemplating how nice it is to be safe in a home with the two-legged one. This time last year, I was living outside my foster mother's home. I'd show up at her front porch at midnight and she'd put food out for me. I was so scared of people that I wouldn't let her get close to me. I'd just meow my thanks for the food, eat, and hide in the bushes again. It got so cold after a while that she created a shelter for me with a heating pad inside. I gladly took up residence inside it. She was such a nice lady! Now, I've got a home with the TLO who has been trained to anticipate my every need. Life is good. It is my wish for the holiday season that all cats, dogs, bunnies, and humans will be in a safe, warm place and know that they are loved.

It's Been A Long Time

Hello all cats, dog, bunnies, and humans! I'm sorry that I've been off the web for a while. The two-legged one and my auntie were so busy eating and shopping during Thanksgiving week that they didn't turn the computer on for me. Thank you very much for all of the holiday wishes. I appreciated each and every one of them. I loved Thanksgiving!! The two-legged one put a big puffy bed in the middle of the living room floor. I got to jump on it and look out the windows. I also got to jump from it to other spots in the living room. Neato! There were all kinds of bags around for me to poke my head into. My auntie stayed here and she gave me such good back scratches, I was in kitty nirvana. Did you really have to go back to the mitten state auntie? Please come back soon. All in all, it was a super holiday and I had lots to be thankful for, including the TLO, my auntie, and all of my blogging friends.

Feeling Fine and Mellow

Now that the cooler weather is upon us, especially at night, I'm becoming a very snuggly girl. I've learned to trust the two-legged one enough to lay on her leg and let her pat me when she's sitting in the big blue chair (yes, I can share it with her sometimes). The TLO is nice and warm and doesn't bother me too much with her need to stroke my wonderfully soft fur. When she tried to hug me today, though, I had to put my paws down. I'm still not entirely convinced that the TLO isn't going to put me in my carrier and drop me off at another stranger's house.

Mwah Ha Ha!

I've taken over the two-legged one's chair! She's bought about 4 different beds for me but I like curling up on her purse when she leaves it on the floor. It's quilted for extra warmth and comfort and it smells interesting. I detect odors from dogs, other cats, and other humans. Sometimes it even smells like food. I overheard the TLO talking to her sister about how she was going to trick me into using one of the fancy beds by putting quilted material over it. We'll just see about that TLO!

The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress

Here I am contemplating the night scene outside my apartment. I'm drawn to the mysterious sights and sounds that come after the sun goes down. The wind whispers through the trees, the crickets strike up their melancholy song, dogs click by on the concrete, and other cats sometimes meet in the shadows. I feel safe inside the door, yet I sometimes feel a longing to wander the dark lanes around my home. For now, though, I'm content to be an observer. The two-legged one really needs me to watch over her and as I've said before, she's not bad for a human. She says that she'd take me outside if I put on a harness and a leash. This strikes me as indicative of some sort of fetish of the TLO's but I will take it under advisement.

Puzzling Picture

Can any kitties, doggies, or humans tell what's going on in this picture? I know it's me doing one of the things that the two-legged one thinks is very cute. She uses that word a lot when she talks to her friends about me. Some other words she uses are smart, playful, loving, stealthy, beautiful, furry, drooling, and weird. What words would I use to describe her? Hmmmmm...she tends to be punctual with my food (except for weekend mornings), generous with toys, attentive to my demands for petting, a little bit needy (I can tell that she wants me to sit on her lap or chest for a cuddle, but I'm not having any of that), and weird (sometimes she crawls around on the floor and she makes strange kissy noises with her mouth, just to name a couple of her eccentricities). Feel free to share words that your humans apply to you or that you apply to your humans. I have discovered that I am a fierce watch cat! The two-legged one has been leaving the front door open to let in some fresh air and whenever some one gets close to our little porch, I crawl towards the door, puff up, and growl real deep in my throat. That sends them all scampering away - it must because they never actually appear at the door. On the morning of my sixth day with the two-legged one, she came to check on me before she left for work. When the TLO noticed that I hadn't used the litter box during the night, which I had always done before, she began to worry. Because I didn't seem to be eating any of the food or drinking any of the water that the TLO put out for me, she was concerned that I had become sick or worse. She called and called me but I wouldn't answer, no sirreee, not me. The TLO looked everywhere she could think of without success. She then phoned a friend and asked her to come over and help find me. After her friend arrived, they searched behind and under all of the furniture, in all of the closets, in the bathtub, under the kitchen sink, behind the appliances, on top of the cupboards, behind books, in the recycle bins, etc., etc.. Then they started looking in places that they thought were very unlikely to hold a kitty cat. While Becky was in the living room moving the couch cushions around, the TLO began opening chest drawers and rummaging under the clothes. Lo and behold, when she opened an overstuffed drawer containing shirts, there I was, folded up like the cat in the cartoon!

How I happened to be there goes a little something like this: During my first week with the TLO, I hid from her because I just didn't understand why I'd been transported to a new place that was occupied by a strange human. One day, when I was watching the TLO from behind a big desk, she left a drawer open in one of her dressers. After she exited the room, I took advantage of the opportunity to secure an even smaller hiding place by jumping in and squeezing myself into a tiny space at the back of the drawer. Later, the TLO put some fresh smelling clothes on top of me, closed the drawer, and departed the room for the night. I kept very quiet so as not to give away my new hidey hole. At first, I was really happy to be all snug but then it began to get very stuffy and cramped. Still, I didn't make a sound, even after the TLO found me. I just waited for her to move the clothes out of my way and then I jumped out and scampered to my hiding place behind the desk. The TLO was very relieved to have found me, but was also upset that she'd accidentally trapped me in the drawer and upset that I hadn't meowed to get out!

Now that we're much more comfortable with each other, we chuckle about this incident. I think it will take a bit more time before we're able to full-out laugh about it, though.

Another Much Loved Kitty

I was browsing around the two-legged one's computer files and ran across a folder full of pictures of another cat. At first, I was kind of jealous and wondered who this kitty was and why the TLO had so many pictures of her. The TLO told me that the kitty's name is Gertie and that she lived here before me. The TLO said that Gertie was her fur friend for a really long time and that she went to the Rainbow Bridge last summer. It seems that Gertie was a very special cat who made the TLO very happy. The TLO loved her so much that when Gertie went to the Bridge, she thought she'd never be able to have another fur friend 'cuz her heart thingy was all broken. Still, when the TLO heard about me needing a home, she decided to meet me and see what her heart had to say. After learning more about how I'd been on my own for a long time and seeing my pretty little feet, her heart opened up and she took me in. It ain't all been catnip and crunchies since then, but I now feel very loved by the TLO and she feels very loved by me and that's good for both our heart thingies.

Freakaaayyy!!

Ooooh, see this weird picture of me? The TLO says that I have ants in my pants but I don't think that's right 'cuz I don't have pants. We do have ants though.

All Mine!

I made my chair choice. See my chair? It's nice and comfy and it's by the window and the thing that blows cool air when it's hot outside. I really like it a lot. The two-legged one doesn't use it very often. My Auntie Ruth likes it so we may have to share it when she comes to visit.

The other exciting thing in my life of late is this big box that's in the bedroom that I share with the two-legged one. The big box started out in the living room and at first, I didn't like it very much. I jumped inside it while I was exploring and I couldn't get out! Now that it's in the bedroom, I can jump on it and look out the window. I can jump onto it from the bed and back. I can jump from it to my window perch and back. The two-legged one tucked a couple of my toys into the hand grips cut into the box and it's fun to bat at them. Max and Buddah are right, boxes are a blast!!

A Little Culture Before Bed

Sometimes before we go to bed, the two-legged one reads to me from her cat poem book. Here's an interesting one called "This Is My Chair" by Paul Gallico:

This is my chair.
Go away and sit somewhere else.
This one is all my own.
It is the only thing in your house that I possess
And insist upon possessing.
Everthing else therein is yours.
My dish,
My toys,
My basket,
My scratching post and my ping-pong ball;
You provided them for me.
This chair I selected for myself.
I like it,
It suits me.
You have the sofa,
The stuffed chair
And the footstool.
I don't go and sit on them do I?
Then why cannot you leave me mine,
And let us have no further argument?

So far, I haven't selected a chair, but I've got my eye on a couple of them. When I figure out which the two-legged one likes best, I'll make my choice. Oh yeah...My powers failed me and I found myself stuck with the two-legged one. I must confess, however, that I am VERY stubborn, so I continued to refuse to acknowledge her and became very adept at hiding (see picture). Refusing to acknowledge her included turning up my nose at the food and water that she offered me for many days. The two-legged one kept talking to me and I even heard her crying and saying that she was so worried about me because I wouldn't eat or drink. Well, this thing in my chest, I think it's called a heart, it started to get a little bit warm and tingly when the two-legged one talked to me and it really did some weird things when she cried. One night, I decided to get a little closer to her to see if I could pick up any useful information. The room was all dark and the two-legged one was laying on this flat, soft thingy. When I got near her, she reached out her hand to me and to my surprise, I rubbed my head on it and you know what? It really felt good! A rumble thingy in my chest, near my heart maybe, started going and I just couldn't stop myself from rolling on my back and letting her stroke me all over.

Yes Edsel and Mia and Ghost, I realized that I'm a cat and that being a cat in possession of a two-legged one definitely has its advantages.

Hmmmph!

That two-legged one thinks that she's so smart, finding my blog. I tried teleporting away with my super brain waves, but nothing happened. Resigned to my fate, I left the cage-like device and searched for a place to take refuge. I found a little tent in a dark, soft space and curled up inside. The two-legged one entered the room occasionally and emitted more guttural noises. I tuned her out and began musing on whether I could turn back time and return from whence I had come. I'm the two-legged being that Miss Kitty referred to in her post. Given my fondness for cat related blogs, I quickly discovered her handiwork and now feel compelled to present my side of the story. I'm not saying that Miss Kitty is spreading falsehoods, I'm just saying that each of us has our own version of the events that have transpired over the last few weeks.

She says that she magically appeared in my bedroom in a cat carrier. Welllll.....I first met Miss Kitty at a friend-of-a-friend's house. This kind woman began seeing Miss Kitty in her yard last fall. After trying without success to find Miss Kitty's owners, she caught Miss Kitty in a humane trap and brought her into her home. Miss Kitty wouldn't come in voluntarily, as during her time outside, she had reverted to being a semi-feral cat and was very apprehensive about contact with humans. The kind woman developed a bond with Miss Kitty, but was not able to keep her. It had been about a year since my beloved Gertie succumbed to cancer and I decided that I was ready to open my heart and apartment to another feline companion.

I picked Miss Kitty up on July 9th and that's when my odyssey began....

I Have Arrived

It's taken me some time to assimilate to my new form and my new surroundings but I've finally determined that I am now a cat and that I live with a two-legged being whose activities are frequently a source of bewilderment. She seems to leave the house for long periods of time, several days each week, so I decided to risk using the computer during one of her absences.

About a month ago, I found myself in a small cage-like device in the middle of a room containing several pieces of furniture. The two-legged being opened the door, emitted odd, guttural sounding noises, and left the room, closing the door behind her. I did what any rational being would do, I stayed put and pretended that I wasn't there. So began my odyssey as a large spirit wrapped in the body of a small, furry, unbelievably beautiful cat.
